If you’re a fan of both jazz music and photography, you should consider checking out ‘In the Groove: Jazz Portraits by Herman Leonard’ at the National Portrait Gallery. The National Portrait Gallery is located just over one mile from Yale West apartments, meaning this exhibition is in walking distance of your home. The exhibit began its run on August 5th, and will be on display at the museum until February 20, 2017.
Herman Leonard was a photographer born during 1920’s who was fascinated with live jazz performances. Leonard was known for photographing some of the biggest jazz musicians and icons of the 20th century, and this exhibit is a collection of some of his most famous works. Some portraits include Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington. Admission to the Nationa Portrait Gallery is free, so be sure to stop in and check out some of the other famous collections during your visit.
